Cross-country skiing competition in classical technique
in the valleys of Fassa and Fiemme
From 1971 to today, on the last Sunday of January, the most important and famous Italian "long distance" cross-country skiing competition in classical technique kicks off in the valleys of Fassa and Fiemme. Every year, the race attracts fans from all over the world and sees at least 7500 competitors at the start.
The competition starts from the plain of Moena and then goes up the Val di Fassa alongside the right bank of the Avisio river up to Canazei, turning point, after which it retraces back the entire Val di Fassa on the left bank of the Avisio and descends along the entire Val di Fiemme to Molina. Here, yet another turning point back to reach the "Cascata - Waterfall" where the famous final climb begins until the arrival in the square of Cavalese, after covering 70 km. For the less daring, there is also the "light" version of 45 km with arrival in Predazzo.
